Dream interpretation
April ,2016
Dreams.. many people have opinions on whether they are pointless or meaningful. I feel they can be both, many dreams I’ve had were pointless..and I’ve also had some that were from God.
As a child I had sleep paralysis, so my sleeping pattern was always unsettled. Insomnia was something I struggled with for all of my childhood. I always felt that there was an evil presence around me, children are more spiritually sensitive I believe. Growing through my teen years I rarely dreamt and sleep paralysis wasn’t so common.
In my previous post Who you are in Christ I explained what sleep paralysis is and my experience with how to get rid of it. Dreams have played a major part in deepening my relationship with Christ.
Throughout the bible dreams were used by God to present a message of something that was going to happen in the future. So some dreams and prophetic and others aren’t.
Joseph dreamt about his brothers, bowing down to him in Genesis chapter 37.
“We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.””
Genesis 37:7 NIV
So here you see that his brother’s were symbolised as grain. If you continue to read the story of Joseph, you will see that this was a prophetic dream and God then gave Joseph the ability to interpret other people’s dreams.
Many times I’ve dreamt and felt that it was from God. So usually I pray about it and ask if it is from Him. I usually know it is, if I can’t get it out of my thought’s especially if it’s about a family member or friend.
The mood of the dream is also important, many times if there is a sense of urgency, this tells me that I need to pray for the person or the situation they’re in.
Dreams that we receive from God can be given to us as to indicate the path we’re on and that is an opportunity to either pray for the dream to come to pass or to rebuke it in the name of Jesus.
It’s all a learning process, so don’t be surprised if God starts speaking to you through your dreams.
Journal your dreams!
This has been very helpful in keeping track of the dreams God has given me. I can refer back to them, pray over them and see if they came to pass.
They also mark certain points in your journey, if you are going through a challenging phase of life, have a look at what your dreams were like. It’s pretty interesting!
To find out the interpretation of your dreams:
- Pray first! seek and ask God to reveal to you what the dream means.
- Read the bible, I use the You Version bible and I simply search for the word, let’s say ‘Bird’ and find the verses it appears in. Don’t just go with the one that sounds the nicest, dreams can be warnings so read all passages so that you can discern how it fits into your dream.
- I look at one website that I find very useful, it’s called Unlocking your dreams
Prayer is you best option of all, God will reveal the dream to you, it may not be instant but you will understand if you persevere in prayer.
Colours are also important indicators in dreams, again refer back to the bible you’ll be amazed what descriptions are linked to each colour.
