God: Don’t throw your gift away.

God: Don’t throw your gift away.

October 2016,

Testimony/Story time. April 2015, I had two weeks off to tie up the loose ends of packing. It had been a long time coming but I had to move house and it was finally happening. Wading through bags of old papers, school books and college materials I stumbled upon my old art folder. A2 in size and packed with illustrations from my old creative days. I had enjoyed drawing in my teen years, 6 years later I wasn’t so enthusiastic about it. Life gets real, you grow older, bills to pay and the last thing you want to think about is being creative. I looked into the folder and began to pull out A3 sheets of illustrations, fashion designs and more. As I looked at it I thought, “wow, look at what I used to be able to do” thinking I could never do it again or at least get inspired. The thought then came to me,
“throw it away, is not like you’re going to draw again”. At that point I was so far away from the artistic person I used to be, I thought it would be easier to put it all behind me and so I did. I threw it away, every illustration. I carried on sorting, boxing and throwing away.

A few weeks later having moved into my new home, I received a message on Facebook. From a mutual friend, he said that he had my portfolio and I’m thinking “what portfolio?” He then went on to name each piece of work in the portfolio and then gave me his address and said you can meet me so I can give it back to you.

The whole time it was his girlfriend messaging me, and she let me know so that I wouldn’t be creeped out. I went with my mum later that day and met the whole family and they returned the folder and of course I couldn’t thank them enough. I gave them a few pieces of work and they reminded me never to do that again! They were shocked that I could have done something so thoughtless, but to me I felt as though my gift was dead and there was no way of reviving it.

I can’t thank them enough for what they did and I thank them for being obedient to God and listening to him. They looked for me on Facebook and God led them straight to me.

We serve a God of restoration and He went above and beyond to return my folder. Don’t listen to the voice of the enemy, your gift matters to God…If you wonder why I talk about restoring gifts and using your gifts, this is why. God told me so I could tell you.. Dont’t throw your gift away! It’s precious.

God bless X
