“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
What is grace? Grace in a short term is strength and ability given to us by God to get through any situation, big or small. Above you’ll read that it is “Christ’s power”, that will see us through every trial.
When you become a Christian, you invite the living presence which is the Spirit of God to live inside of you, therefore becoming a temple of the Holy Spirit. The word Emmanuel means God with us, and quite literally God is with you at all times, directing, guiding and speaking through you if you. His power is within us and it strengthens us.
I felt like God had been whispering this verse to me, His grace is sufficient even when you feel like your barely holding on. It may not feel like it at the time but if your still making your way through a test, it’s because His grace IS sufficient.
When I felt the Holy Spirit speak these words to me I answered, “well what am I doing wrong then? Why do I keep failing?” I guess that’s just a part of it, you get things wrong, you fall down and you get back up, never the less it still remains true.
I’ve found that for me it’s a question of will power and whether I choose to believe God and His word or let my emotions rule me for the rest of my life. It’s a daily choice we all have to make and it’s not easy. The verses below remind me of the reasons my emotions tend overrule me at times…
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12 NIV
Also…
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” Galatians 5:16-17 NIV
There are unseen forces that influence our emotions and so if I’m feeling angry or upset it’s a spirit of anger caused by satan. The Spirit of God that’s living in us is pure, just and holy. He always suggests the right thing to do as opposed to what your flesh tells you to do. Your flesh is your sin nature caused by the fall when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge (good and evil), in the garden. It’s the side of you that wants to retaliate, be proud and selfish. Once you let the Spirit of God live inside of you, you’re able to be led by Him and if you choose to listen to Him you can apply His grace to any situation. It’s a matter of choice and free will.
This is a daily battle but Gods word is true, and it’s the defence against every trial. So take a step back and look at how you got through some of your tough situations, and you’ll see His blessings showered all over you. He loves you, He is always with you and His promises are true.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
