Organisation has been a tough one for me over the past year. I won’t bore you with a list of things I’ve been doing but I felt myself being swamped and little by little I’ve been learning to organise and juggle. It’s not perfect yet but here are a few tips anyway.
Getting my priorities in order was the first step, then launching into action and creating a plan. My diary is my second best friend (first being Jesus) and has helped me remember in advance who I’m meeting up with, reminding me who to contact, and when to complete tasks that I’ve set myself.
Being a good steward of time is still an area that needs work but it’s getting there. If you, like myself get sidetracked easily while knowing you have something important to do, hold off the distraction and focus. We don’t need a spirit of distraction getting the better of us, they’ve been placed there strategically to mislead you from doing what you need to do. Pray to God to remove these spirits. This is about all priorities, Godly ones and everyday duties.
Be realistic with time frames and don’t over plan. I’ve been guilty of doing this over and over and it only causes frustration, set your self a deadline with a ‘time cushion’, as I like to call it. Basically plan yourself extra time to ensure the task can be completed in the set timeframe. All of these things are simple when broken down but for those who are naturally laid back it can be hard putting them into practice. One by one they should help you to regain order, you have to be disciplined in order to achieve good results but when you do it will be worth it.
Finally, seek the Lord in prayer. Doing anything in your own strength is useless. Ask God to strengthen you, equip you and focus your mind on His agenda. He wants you to be focused and take care of the tasks you’ve been assigned. Ask Him for guidance and He’ll gently nudge you in the right direction. Ask Him to plan your day accordingly and that may mean a few things get pushed off of the daily list but He knows best. I would advise you to start your day with God, in the word and in prayer, just to seek His presence. He will then place the desires of His heart on yours.
Here are a few closing tips:
- Seek God for strength and to help you remain focused.
- If you have a forgetful mind (like me) use a diary, one on your phone or paper. I use my phone, it’s convenient and always with me.
- Think about your priorities, is the task at hand more important than another? If so jump on it. My mum always says never leave for tomorrow what you can do today.
- Be realistic with time frames, set your self more than enough time and stay focused.
I’m still learning how to steward my time properly and as with everything that God gives us, if we use it wisely in ways that honour Him, we will see His glory and be useful vessels. Also it just makes for a productive life which is a bonus.
I hope this helps, and I pray that you will see the hand of God over your life each day. Amen
