Today is Blue Monday. Celebrate

January, 2018

Celebrate.

Today is blue Monday, I’d never heard of this day before. It’s said to be the most depressing day of the year, due to the lack of money after Christmas, the lull after all of the parties and festivities and failing to stick to our New Years resolutions. I can see why it’s called blue Monday, but I’m convinced that this is a day to celebrate. Even though there may be a lack of self control, finances, and festivities.

This weekend for me was freeing and refreshing. I hadn’t planned to have a New Years resolution and to be honest I still think I haven’t got one but it’s in progress. I’m not very good at keeping them and have always thought that they were a waste of time but they aren’t, I was wrong. I’m still in the process on deciding what my New Years resolution is but there’s still time, I mean the year isn’t up yet and it’s still pretty new so I have a couple of weeks.

Hearing about blue Monday was a first for me but I’m determined to go against the grain, why side with depression. Make no room for that, I believe we should go at our own pace in life and yeah I know Blue Monday isn’t very serious but for some it is.

Some people are down and depressed and I want to be the first to say I’ve been there. But renewing my mind each day and remembering why I was created always pulls me out of the pit. God’s word is my personal strength, it’s my hope for this year and the next. If it wasn’t for his strength I wouldn’t be here today and depression was all too familiar for me, along with anxiety. Those are a powerful combination and a deadly one at that. Understand that this year is an opportunity to change your heart, to change your mind, to forgive, to ask for forgiveness. Make wrongs right, take that class, take the trip you’ve been putting off and make time for what’s most important. For me it’s Jesus and dwelling in his presence means that I’m free and strengthened, to handle all that the enemy wants to throw at me.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
