Spirit lead me…Part 2

November, 2015

So lets talk about God’s voice.. what I’ve learned on my journey with God is that in order receive the gift of hearing God’s voice I had to get to know him a little better. I go to an amazing church called All Nations Revival Church in Mitcham, and it’s only since going to this church that I’ve gained an understanding (which is still developing) of how to hear him.

It was on a 12 week course called ‘Christian to the Core‘ that I actually began to understand what I would have to do in order to hear him. As we were asked to write down our goal of what we wanted to achieve at the end of the course, mine was to hear the voice of God, more clearly.

My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27

So here I will list 3 points that have helped me in hearing God’s voice more clearly.

  1. Quiet time

This is a crucial element in hearing from God, I find that I hear from God the best in the morning, at the start of my day. It’s not always easy (I am not a morning person) but it is completely worth it. I give myself a minimum of 30 minutes and you may be wondering..What do I do for that length of time, in the morning when I’m struggling to keep my eyes open??.. Well what I tend to do is get into my quiet time spot, which is on my bed, many people have there quiet time in a multitude of different places for example the Sofa, in the garden, or maybe walking in a field.

So once you’ve found a space, make sure it’s a quiet one, you won’t be able to hear the lord if you’ve got children running around, or if the TV is on etc. This may mean telling your family or spouse that you need a bit of time by yourself, just for half an hour.

So what I tend to do is let God lead me, you will naturally feel if you need to pray first, or maybe you want to worship him using a worship song. Most of the time I say an entry prayer thanking him for everything I can think of and then I sit still before him.. which may be a strange concept but it’s a time where you focus all of your thought’s on the presence of God and knowing that he is there takes you to a deeper place.

Once I am in his presence I open my bible and read, at that time I meditate on the word and journal anything that jumps out at me.

2. Journaling

This is something I do to note how I am feeling and how God has blessed my life in the smallest ways to the biggest! In writing down your thought’s on scripture, you’re able to analyse and pick out the parts of scripture that God is trying to impart to you. This helps you to clearly have an open dialogue with God in writing the moments of overcoming obstacles and also the trials and falls. Often I can write better than I can pray, so when I have fallen into sin, I was able to write the reason’s why I ended up there and some ways that the situation’s could have be avoided. It’s a development book, where you right your inner secrets with God and he ministers to you through the holy spirit.

3. Expect to hear from God

If you expect to hear from God you will hear from God, this comes down to faith. God want’s to talk to you, he want’s you to be in his presence and if we honour him by setting time aside to talk to him and hear from him, then surely he will turn up because he’s crazy faithful!

But you, O lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and FAITHFULNESS. Psalm 86:15

I hope this helps, comment and give me some tips on how you have your quiet time.
