Missionary trip: Georgia, Tiblisi Part 1

May 2016,

So it all started around a few months ago, my pastor made an announcement about a missionary trip to Georgia (near Russia). I had no idea where it was and that morning I had walked into church with feelings of frustration mixed with urgency. Trying to worship with tears in my eyes, feeling like “What is my purpose here Lord?”. I just wanted to do something, go somewhere, I wanted to be used by God. When my pastor mentioned the trip I was thinking “That can’t be for me, that’s a bit too far outside of my comfort zone” but I had a funny feeling that this was for me. Long story short I ended up going.

Leading up to the trip I felt more and more inadequate, I had no idea what I was doing and since it was about evangelism I was even more concerned. It was one day at church when a friend said to me, “To feel inadequate is perfect, it allows for God to use you, so you know that His power is working through you” 2 Corinthians 12:9 comes to mind..

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So that’s what I did, I prepared somewhat by prayer, meetings with my pastor and preparing my testimony/devotional. It was scary but exciting, God hand picks us for certain things in life so if he’s calling you, answer and rise to the occasion!

I met many amazing people and discovered that Gods power will overtake your fear and inadequacy. This was a mission to reach out to the local towns and communities within Tiblisi, to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Upon arrival we had no idea what to expect, we ended up staying in the Georgian church and living in dormitories. As another mission team from Turkey were meeting us, we lived with them in the communal space. What I love about being a child of God is that no matter where you go whether you all speak the same language or not, brotherly love in Christ is universal. We prayed, ate and laughed together as one family.

We began everyday with prayer and breakfast together, along with devotionals. As I said before I’m new to mission game and new to having an outspoken presence so it was all new territory. Gods presence was so strong throughout and we wanted him to lead the way. He set up the divine appointments and made it possible to reach out to those that needed him.

Stay tuned for Part 2.
