August 2016,
In my walk with God I have been struggling particularly in my ability to control my negative thoughts and speech. So I’ve been asking the Lord to help me on this.
Last week Monday he gave me a word, while I was at work. The word as titled above was ‘Release’. It jumped into my mind and along with it came the very well know scripture, Proverbs 18:21.
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Proverbs 18:21 NIV
We have power in the words we speak, whether you are a believer or not. As God spoke the universe into existence we have an authority to speak words of life, meaning words that bear good fruit. For example, words of encouragement can produce healthy emotions. However words of death produce fear, depression and a pesemistic mind set. The list could go on for both.
“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Proverbs 12:18 NIV
Don’t underestimate the power you have in your words. I think for most of us it’s an on going struggle. When I get into a place of negativity it’s hard to get out, but the word of God has always been my strength as well as having a circle of family and friends around to encourage me.
Our thoughts and behaviours are majorly impacted by those we spend the most time with. Also by what we listen to, what we watch and what we spend time doing. We become the product of these things, and as children of God it’s important that we remember him in everything we do. I’m sure we all want to be useful to God and for his power to be released through us. This is the way it was meant to be, miracles weren’t just for biblical times.
The scriptures tell us that we can ‘release’ Gods healing power, or on the other hand words of gossip and judgement. The power is in our hands and God will always give us the grace and strength to make the right choices. We may stumble at times but as I have to remind myself, he is a faithful God.
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
Psalm 103:8 ESV
“as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
Psalm 103:12 NIV
I’m learning that I have the power to speak Gods word over my life in everyday situations and proclaim each promise that he has for me, and for you.
He is sovereign over all things, he has amazing plans for us and if we keep that at the front of our minds, we can encourage ourselves and others. So release words of life, love, healing, encouragement and all that good stuff.
God bless X
